    Thermal spray applications we supply

Oil & gas drill pipe hardfacing

HVOF WC-Co coatings (300–400 µm) on drill pipe tool joints replace traditional flame-spray or welded hardbanding — offering hardness >1,100 HV and wear rates <1 mm³/Nm in ASTM G65 testing. Jayanth supplies WC-12Co and WC-10Co-4Cr powders (−45+15 µm) for both HVOF gun and HVAF gun processes.

    Industrial pump plungers and seals

High-pressure pump plungers for water injection, mud pumps, and hydraulic presses are HVOF-coated with WC-Co to resist abrasion from sand-laden fluids. Coating hardness 1,100–1,300 HV₃₀₀ with porosity <0.5% (image analysis). WC-10Co-4Cr recommended for brine/seawater environments.

Paper mill rolls and nip rolls

WC-Co HVOF coatings replace chrome plating on paper machine rolls to meet REACH / RoHS requirements. Coating surface roughness Ra 0.05–0.2 µm after grinding. WC-12Co powder (−38+15 µm) is typical; WC-17Co for press rolls subject to nip fatigue.

    Landing gear components

Aerospace landing gear actuators, trunnions, and door hinges — HVOF WC-17Co per AMS 2447 — are a primary application replacing hard chrome plating under the REACH restriction. Jayanth's WC-Co powder is supplied with batch oxygen and carbon analysis traceable to the delivered CoA.

    Mining equipment wear parts

Ground engaging tools, bucket lips, and crusher wear liners coated by PTA (plasma transferred arc) hardfacing using fused WC powder (macro-crystalline, −53+20 µm) in an NiCrBSi matrix. Fused WC gives higher carbide volume fraction vs sintered WC and dramatically extends wear life in high-abrasion service.

    Gas turbine engine components

WC-NiCr (Ni-matrix) HVOF coatings on compressor blade root platforms and blade track inserts for resistance to fretting wear. Ni matrix is preferred over Co where stress corrosion cracking of the substrate is a concern. Supplied to aerospace thermal spray sub-contractors under traceable lot documentation.

    Frequently asked questions

What particle size distribution (PSD) do you supply for HVOF WC-Co powder?

Standard HVOF grades are supplied at −45+15 µm (D10 ~18 µm, D90 ~42 µm), and −53+20 µm for some HVAF and plasma guns. We can also supply −38+15 µm for fine-feature coatings or −63+45 µm for PTA hardfacing. PSD measured by laser diffraction (ASTM B822 or ISO 13320) is reported on the CoA.

What is the difference between WC-12Co and WC-10Co-4Cr for corrosion resistance?

WC-12Co coatings are excellent for dry abrasion and fresh-water environments but the Co binder can dissolve in acidic or chloride-rich environments. WC-10Co-4Cr (10% cobalt, 4% chromium) provides significantly better corrosion resistance by forming a passive Cr₂O₃ layer on the binder, making it the preferred choice for sea-water pumps, chemical processing, and marine applications. Hardness is typically 5–10% lower than WC-12Co for the same particle size.

Can you supply WC powder certified for aerospace HVOF coating (AMS 2447)?

Yes. For aerospace HVOF applications under AMS 2447 or similar specifications, we supply WC-Co and WC-CoCr powder with full chemistry CoA (WC, Co, Cr content, oxygen, carbon), PSD by laser diffraction, flowability (Hall flow meter), apparent density, and SEM morphology. Customer-specific specification requirements can be reviewed; contact us with your material specification number.

Do you supply both agglomerated-sintered and fused WC powder?

Yes. Agglomerated and sintered WC-Co powder (spherical morphology, high flowability) is supplied for HVOF, HVAF, and plasma spray. Fused (cast-crushed) WC powder (angular, macro-crystalline) is supplied for PTA hardfacing and OAW torch applications. Both types are available in multiple size cuts. Please specify 'agglomerated sintered' or 'fused' when enquiring.
